Growing up, I felt I was very boxed in and isolated, socially and artistically.  The box shattered the day I realized my art could have a sense of humor. A simple revelation caused a complete metamorphosis, from dark and drab realism into the unknown. I began to study art history and contemporary art with gusto. I learned how to paint digitally. I began to explore the blurry ideas and images floating around my mind. I started to paint with a purpose. Unexpectedly, paint alone wasn’t enough anymore, I wanted texture and dimension, I wanted neon, shine, and glitter. So, although I still consider myself a painter, I have moved on from only using acrylic to focusing on mixed media. I like stick to water soluble binders as my only rule of thumb. My pieces become mostly acrylic, watercolor, or gouache, with other miscellaneous stuff added in. My recent favorites have been to use watercolor painted tissue paper, torn into pieces, and painting them into another art piece, as well as diamond glitter and Swarovski crystals. I also have begun to paint on three dimensional objects, tables, stools, boxes, wood. There’s very little limitation in my process.

I use art as a way to express my view on the world. I have stopped being in total control of my subject matter. I did not set out to create the eyeball dude, but they developed almost on their own. They cracked me up and gave me a way to be bold, bright, and entertaining. I couldn’t help but return to their world time and time again. I love to paint eyes, to discover the emotion and expressions they can hold. Eyes have always been a common theme with my art. When I find a subject I love, I want to create series of paintings. One is never enough, I want to complete a hundred sets of eyes. I want to know what it would feel like to be in a room surrounded by those one hundred paintings. My current fascination has been with blob painting, by creating a cloud like shape I feel a partnership with my art as it coaxes itself into being.
